Recruitment Consultancy – Helping others find professional space
October 21, 2010
If the angels in heaven were listening, they would create space for the recruitment consultants! What can be nobler than helping others find a job befitting ones caliber. A recruitment consultancy is dedicated to head hunting for their client. It is a process of screening applicants so as to ascertain their qualification to fit in the specific vacancy or role in the required organization. In a nutshell, they save time and money for the company that is hiring by finding the right person for the right job.
A recruitment consultancy has to look into several different aspects of a candidate to be selected. Sourcing, screening and selecting a candidate with the right potential, is an arduous task. The job profiles in the present day scenario are quite different from what they were a decade back. Recruiters have to go through very intensive process of screening before short listing the right candidate. The consultant must possess some qualities to be selecting the right candidate, from client’s point of view. The candidate is not just filling in the vacant slot. He is the person who would be very much instrumental in the smooth functioning of the organization. It is impertinent for the consultant to be discerning in determining the right candidature.
Organizations are on the lookout for candidates who have the appropriate profile, required vintage and the right attitude. The investment in terms of time, money and effort is very expensive. An in-house HR department function specializes in taking care of the payrolls and employee HR processes for the employees already working in the system apart from this their job is also to source candidates with the right potential to the specific function heads for them to analyze as per their requirements.
Having said this, there is an ocean of prospective aspirants in a market where everyone lives with a pre-conceived notion of being the right choice. The role of the recruitment consultant comes to the fore, and helps not just to eliminate the not so good, but also to screen the applicants with the specified skills. Their job is also to ascertain that the candidate is equally serious about taking on the new profile. It is observed in many cases that candidates are not really serious and may have come in for interviews just to get a “feel of the market”. This could waste a lot of time for the in-house HR personnel. Hence technically, hiring a recruitment consultant is also like outsourcing a job or a process.
Recruitment consultancies are synonymous to the functions of the HR. Only they are not on permanent payroll of a particular company. Instead, they are paid commissions depending upon the contractual agreement. With the shift in the hiring paradigm, retention has become another factor. Hence, the commissions of the consultant can vary from a pre-defined percentage to equivalent of basic pay of 1 month to 3 months of the hired candidate. This is one way of ensuring retention of the employee by the hiring organization. The recruitment consulting business is flourishing, with the expansion in the market, domestic and international.
