KPO and BPO Career Trends – Specialization at its best
October 8, 2010
You can almost say the BPO gave birth to the KPO! It all started with the evolution of the Business Process Outsourcing. The fundamental behind this business decision was to concentrate on the spirit of the business in the country of origin, and allow the routine processes to be handled by a cost-friendly and viable off-site location. Outsourcing in various forms has become a way of doing business for most organizations.
KPO is an off-shoot of BPO, more specialized in nature and function. KPO means “knowledge process outsourcing”, and befits the functions performed by the unit. KPO incorporates highly advanced analytical information essentially needed for decision making. Generally, the decisions’ are of low level and does not hamper nor clashes with the higher level of functioning in an organization. From the business perspective, it saves them time, effort and money – All of these being the foundation on which the vertical growth of the organization depends. Projects are managed and professional advice is given out based on analytical skills and business expertise. KPO conventionally involves peripherals of BPO and RPO (recruitment process outsourcing).
Taking cue from the success of BPOs in India, companies have started to shift their focus on the core activities for optimum efficiency. The outsourcing of non-core functions has helped to streamline the business environment with an edge. Since KPO serves high end value projects, enterprises are looking up to KPO for assistance. Not just restricted to IT sector or ITES, KPO has spread its tentacles in almost every sphere of business organization. The established customers of KPO are market research agencies, financial institutions, planning departments of large organizations, legal and consulting firms, chemicals, engineering and data base services.
As companies are pursuing more complex fields of interest, ranging from general to aesthetic levels, KPOs are fast gaining grounds. In this speedily evolving era, it is of great significance to be aware of the kind of professional knowledge we are equipped with and how that professional expertise is delivered on global basis. This industry is expected to be pumped in with an investment of $12 billion providing employment to 250, 0000 professionals in future!
It is projected that 70% of the Knowledge Process Outsourcing jobs on the international platform will be captured by the Indian market. The estimation given above is evidential of the times to come. The exodus of manpower from other parts of the country to where the BPO and KPO sects are being established is another proof of the receptivity and trend that the Indian population is walking towards. A time has now come when outsourcing of jobs and borrowing knowledge power has become the mother of all commercial ventures. Now if that is not growth, nothing ever will be.
