Everyone encounters good and bad things at office, few tough times are temporary but some are chronic and that is when people consider changing their career, a wise move. Promotion is another factor which compels many to switch their job because it is difficult to continue to work in a place where there is no growth. But before you make an impulsive decision of switching, first speak to your superiors and demonstrate your skills to prove it to them that you too deserve a promotion. Talk to them about your aspirations, ask for productive feedback, and find out ways to improve your performance. Adding your qualifications can also aid you in this, there are companies that offer assistance to their employees in acquiring a degree or a certificate.
Are you searching for job postings while at work? Then it is another symptom that you are in the wrong career but it is not wise. Better use your free time to update your resume and widen your online networking.
If you dread to get to work then it is a signal that you need to consider changing the job. Before shifting do a little self-assessment or even talking to a counselor can help you find out what bothers you at work, the reason, and is there any way to fix it up. If you decided to change think twice before proceeding. Change should be for better and your new profile should add value to you and your resume.

There is a fine line that demarcates one from doing a job and making a career. The awareness of this fact is what has and will make a difference to the professional future of the 21st century generation. An Organization today is very clear on one thing. And that is, if they want to develop, the employees working with them ought to develop as well.
The erstwhile understanding of the concept of career development implied a sequence of vertical movement with expansion of responsibilities with rewards in return in term of perks, money and status. This privilege was extended to a handful few who were supposedly considered the cream of the industry or the elite from the social circles. This too was restricted to larger known brands.
The changing trends globally, show that limiting oneself to single organization may not be the smartest thing to do professionally. In fact this works well for an organization as well. Change for them would mean fresh ideas and concept, therefore keeping the work environment rejuvenated and constantly on the move. Vertical movement is not the only aspect of career development today. Lateral movements leading to wider exposure and diversified responsibilities also expose employees to greater heights of positive and rewarding careers. Self employment is yet another sphere that is being dabbled in by many professionally qualified individuals. Being your own boss has no comparison!
Determining the potential of an employee is no more contained with the idea of considering him or her worthy of promotion. The trend now is to figure out if they are willing to take on more diversified responsibilities, are more flexible to changing market situations, are capable of adapting to competition, possess the openness to work as a team and not as an individual, and focus clearly on professional development taking into account the qualitative enhancement of one’s personal development as well.
It becomes rather imperative that we cling on to the cliché “The right people with the right skills are at the right place at the right time to achieve strategic objectives”. The process of development is a two-way traffic. If the right person is identified for a job in an organization, it becomes crucial for the organization to retain that individual at a cost competitive and comparable to what the market offers for a similar role. The next thing is to comprehend that after a certain point in time, personal development at the professional front is not ignored either.
Had this not been the case, why would an IIM graduate who lands with a cushy and atrociously highly paid career lose interest in their jobs after mere five years. It simply goes to say, that too much was offered too soon. The key word here then becomes “Experience”. The Maslow theories are clearly justified here. The cause of “Development” gets lost amidst such scramble to gain too much in too little a time!

If the angels in heaven were listening, they would create space for the recruitment consultants! What can be nobler than helping others find a job befitting ones caliber. A recruitment consultancy is dedicated to head hunting for their client. It is a process of screening applicants so as to ascertain their qualification to fit in the specific vacancy or role in the required organization. In a nutshell, they save time and money for the company that is hiring by finding the right person for the right job.
A recruitment consultancy has to look into several different aspects of a candidate to be selected. Sourcing, screening and selecting a candidate with the right potential, is an arduous task. The job profiles in the present day scenario are quite different from what they were a decade back. Recruiters have to go through very intensive process of screening before short listing the right candidate. The consultant must possess some qualities to be selecting the right candidate, from client’s point of view. The candidate is not just filling in the vacant slot. He is the person who would be very much instrumental in the smooth functioning of the organization. It is impertinent for the consultant to be discerning in determining the right candidature.
Organizations are on the lookout for candidates who have the appropriate profile, required vintage and the right attitude. The investment in terms of time, money and effort is very expensive. An in-house HR department function specializes in taking care of the payrolls and employee HR processes for the employees already working in the system apart from this their job is also to source candidates with the right potential to the specific function heads for them to analyze as per their requirements.
Having said this, there is an ocean of prospective aspirants in a market where everyone lives with a pre-conceived notion of being the right choice. The role of the recruitment consultant comes to the fore, and helps not just to eliminate the not so good, but also to screen the applicants with the specified skills. Their job is also to ascertain that the candidate is equally serious about taking on the new profile. It is observed in many cases that candidates are not really serious and may have come in for interviews just to get a “feel of the market”. This could waste a lot of time for the in-house HR personnel. Hence technically, hiring a recruitment consultant is also like outsourcing a job or a process.
Recruitment consultancies are synonymous to the functions of the HR. Only they are not on permanent payroll of a particular company. Instead, they are paid commissions depending upon the contractual agreement. With the shift in the hiring paradigm, retention has become another factor. Hence, the commissions of the consultant can vary from a pre-defined percentage to equivalent of basic pay of 1 month to 3 months of the hired candidate. This is one way of ensuring retention of the employee by the hiring organization. The recruitment consulting business is flourishing, with the expansion in the market, domestic and international.

You can almost say the BPO gave birth to the KPO! It all started with the evolution of the Business Process Outsourcing. The fundamental behind this business decision was to concentrate on the spirit of the business in the country of origin, and allow the routine processes to be handled by a cost-friendly and viable off-site location. Outsourcing in various forms has become a way of doing business for most organizations.
KPO is an off-shoot of BPO, more specialized in nature and function. KPO means “knowledge process outsourcing”, and befits the functions performed by the unit. KPO incorporates highly advanced analytical information essentially needed for decision making. Generally, the decisions’ are of low level and does not hamper nor clashes with the higher level of functioning in an organization. From the business perspective, it saves them time, effort and money – All of these being the foundation on which the vertical growth of the organization depends. Projects are managed and professional advice is given out based on analytical skills and business expertise. KPO conventionally involves peripherals of BPO and RPO (recruitment process outsourcing).
Taking cue from the success of BPOs in India, companies have started to shift their focus on the core activities for optimum efficiency. The outsourcing of non-core functions has helped to streamline the business environment with an edge. Since KPO serves high end value projects, enterprises are looking up to KPO for assistance. Not just restricted to IT sector or ITES, KPO has spread its tentacles in almost every sphere of business organization. The established customers of KPO are market research agencies, financial institutions, planning departments of large organizations, legal and consulting firms, chemicals, engineering and data base services.
As companies are pursuing more complex fields of interest, ranging from general to aesthetic levels, KPOs are fast gaining grounds. In this speedily evolving era, it is of great significance to be aware of the kind of professional knowledge we are equipped with and how that professional expertise is delivered on global basis. This industry is expected to be pumped in with an investment of $12 billion providing employment to 250, 0000 professionals in future!
It is projected that 70% of the Knowledge Process Outsourcing jobs on the international platform will be captured by the Indian market. The estimation given above is evidential of the times to come. The exodus of manpower from other parts of the country to where the BPO and KPO sects are being established is another proof of the receptivity and trend that the Indian population is walking towards. A time has now come when outsourcing of jobs and borrowing knowledge power has become the mother of all commercial ventures. Now if that is not growth, nothing ever will be.

We have been bombarded with smart terms like career development. Now comes, career management. This term is as personal as it can get. It is your individual and personal responsibility to check and move the graph in directions that you chose for yourself. Do not look to organizations to chart out a plan for you. You are not their responsibility. They are here to make money at the end of the day, and if it takes to develop your career in a way that benefits them best, they will do so. The important thing to admit here is that, is your thought process and that of the organization you are working for, in sync with each other? Do your expectations and that of the organization match?
There will be times, when what benefits them will not be as beneficial for you. Maybe your potential to the 100% has still not been tapped. Maybe the job is great and the career is going great guns, but it probably is not the thing you want to do for the rest of your life. So, now, who becomes responsible for the way your career is going. You are! Managing careers is by far the most excruciating of all tasks that the most capable and innovative of people have failed to accomplish. Feel free to join the bandwagon. Or jump off it, whilst there is still time!
Career management should be a pre-configured set of planning moves and active involvement and say in planning one’s own professional career. Successful interpretation and application of this aspect can result in a life that you can call complete. Personal objectives being met, with work-life balance since man is a social animal, with financial stability and security taken care of – life does come in a full circle.
Realistic understanding of your goals will help you stay rooted to the ground. The awareness, that only dreaming will not help, can do wonders. Sleep has to be lost, if your focus has to remain intact. Plan a strategy to reach there. Plan to support the plan- yes we are talking about contingency plans. Chalk out the Do’s and Don’ts. Implement and constantly evaluate. Be open to change and resistance. Work on work-around solutions. Always have a plan B and a plan C and yet another plan!
Management fundamentals hold well in every sphere of life. After all, you are constantly managing work, managing your boss, managing home, managing relationships, managing your link with the society in general. Maybe it is time you started managing your life on your terms. Maybe giving your career a direction that you feel fits best in your picture is what will get you there. The choice is yours. Either you can live life to the hilt, or you just go on dragging!

Setting goals empowers you to think out off the box! Achieving those goals may not necessarily be a smooth ride. But that is what makes it worthwhile. It gets you thinking and makes you work towards achieving your dreams. You start to head in a direction that leads into a zone of restless ambition. An ambition will keep you on your toes, until your dreams are realized. In order to “arrive”, it becomes imperative that a structured set of goals are set with time lines clearly identified and adhered to.
Dreams can turn into a nightmare. But visions can turn into reality – if only you focus with constant energy levels that never flicker. One thing that you need to realize here is that the biggest mistake you can make is to look for motivation outside of you. Your dreams are yours. They cannot be anybody else’s. So really, how could you expect any one else to even bother with understanding the value and depth of your dreams.
External factors and influences can be distracting and in fact, sometimes demoralizing as well. Planning and setting goals are not management terms used only in business. This is a plan of action that can and should be used in every sphere of life. To set goals and chalk out clear and realistic moves in order to reach where you want is the only way to achieve what you really want in life. This is again true to both, personal and professional development. The bottom line is to never ever lose focus. Short term benefits should ideally be overlooked unless they enhance and accelerate you into the path of progress.
It is not only the common individual that benefits from such detailed exercise of setting goals and marking anchors to achieve them. The world class athletes, business houses, and all those who have attained a name in their respective fields are all party to such thought processes. It may sound like a cliché that in order to achieve something, there are many sacrifices you have to make on the way. But there is nothing truer than this!
It all begins with setting personal goals such as bigger house or a swankier car or maybe something more romantic as settling down with your beloved! It then goes on to setting life time goals, and fitting them into the bigger picture. The range of areas that are covered is quite vast and varied. The spread is across career to financial management, acquiring the required education to having a family at the appropriate time, consolidating an artistic bend, to changing your attitude to attaining physical fitness. It could also include your wants – mind you, not your needs, your wants – for pleasure, or simply your social responsibility towards the society. After all, there comes a stage when it should be pay-back time!
Set your goals, keep them short and keep them simple. Set your priorities, visit back time and again, write them down and review at every stage, most important of all, be realistic. Brainstorm to the ‘are you crazy’ levels, and constantly look for something that you may have missed out, because there is never any such thing as a perfect plan.

Sales, sales and more sales – the mantra for a business that intends to remain in business. One can be the best of a professional in developing software, or manufacturing a super quality product, or an expert on labor and industrial laws. But if there are no sales, these units will cease to exist. The bottom line being, one has to bring the product to the forefront in the market and make it viable enough to be purchased, and then, make sure it is in actuality bought by the consumer. To make this happen, every organization, industry, business house needs to have a sales force that makes their product or service lucrative, drives their shop to sustain, and make it bigger.
The profile and role of sales is, by far the most significant linkages of an organization to the outside world, irrespective of the size of the organization. They are instrumental in accelerating the growth of an organization or sliding it down! Not only do they bring in numbers in terms of sales but also establish relationships, mind you, not just a customer base, but “relationships”. There is a fine line that demarcates the two, but is unavoidable at any cost in today’s competitive world.
The sales force is the face of the organization they are representing. They are specifically responsible for the perception that the consumer in general, carries about the organization. It therefore becomes imperative that one hires the most suitable sales force from the organization’s point of view. Traditional practices of sales recruitment continue to remain prevalent even today. However, there has been many an addendum to the existing processes. The idea is not just to fill in a team but to select the right team, who will mutually benefit in terms of their own career goals as well as from the organization’s profitability perspective.
Online methods of hiring are a hit in virtual world of internet. With the detailed information taken from the applicants, the interviewer is always better informed. Sorting and sieving in the soft form, helps save the Human Resource department time, effort and money. The selected candidates with the expected potential are then called for interviews with behavioral tests compounded with in-depth analysis of the understanding of sales strategies of the candidate. Their qualifications and suitability are then decided upon, thus leading to meetings with the specialized function heads. Belief in team work and acceptability by linkages play a pivotal role here.
As the organization gets big and the roles, bigger, networking comes into action. Word of mouth becomes the key word. Tried and tested, and proven personnel with detailed and yet accurate qualifications can be picked up from the market. This holds true to all functions.
Hiring the right people can be severely arduous and extremely exhausting but worth the effort in the long run. However, in the long run, not making the right choices and not taking the right decisions can prove fatal and expensive for an organization.
